Dr Geoff Whitehouse brings over three decades of experience and innovation to Forster Eye Surgery, a practice he founded 30 years ago in Forster-Tuncurry NSW. A graduate of the University of Sydney, Dr Whitehouse completed his ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital, where he gained early exposure to the pioneering EXCIMER laser technology in Australia.
Dr Whitehouse’s final year of specialist training was under the mentorship of Dr Michael Lawless, past president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), and Dr Chris Rogers. This invaluable experience honed his skills in cataract, corneal and refractive surgery. He further specialised in paediatric ophthalmology at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney and in oculoplastic surgery at the University of Calgary, Canada.
At Forster Eye Surgery, Dr Whitehouse is committed to providing world-class eye care with a personal touch. His approach emphasises respecting patients opinions and time, ensuring a compassionate and efficient healthcare experience.
Dr Whitehouse has introduced advanced ophthalmic technologies to regional Australia. He was the first to bring objective perimetry (Accumap) outside a teaching institution in Australia and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) outside a metropolitan centre. OCT is now standard in the care of macular disease, glaucoma and diabetes and significantly enhances diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Whitehouse has been actively involved in cataract surgery research. He designed and patented surgical instruments that are used world-wide and has presented his findings at numerous Australasian scientific meetings. An esteemed speaker, Dr Whitehouse has been invited by multi-national medical companies such as Pfizer, Alcon, and Hoya to share his expertise at both Australian and international conferences.
