Dr Malcolm Capon is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and surgical retinal specialist. He has extensive experience consulting in NSW in the treatment and management of a wide range of ophthalmic conditions, including diseases of the vitreous and retina, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. In addition to private practice, Dr Capon is Visiting Medical Officer at Sydney Eye Hospital, Sydney Private, Prince of Wales and Liverpool Hospitals.
Dr Capon graduated from Otago University, and did his specialist training at Auckland Hospital in New Zealand. In the UK, he did research into the ophthalmic use of lasers at the Institute of Ophthalmology, and fellowships in medical and surgical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Dr Capon has a long association with the College of Ophthalmology, RANZCO. He has been a teacher of College trainee ophthalmologists, chair of the College Board of Examiners, chair of the College Board which assesses overseas ophthalmologists who apply to be accredited to practice in Australia or New Zealand, and an invited speaker at College meetings. Dr Capon volunteers at the Pacific Eye Institute, Suva Fiji (Fred Hollows).
Dr Capon is skilled in the provision of medicolegal examinations and reports, and has completed the modules in Visual Systems and Vision for AMA Guides 4th and 5th Editions. He has been widely published in peer reviewed journals, and maintains current Continuing Professional Development by attending relevant medical conferences and seminars.
